Alice In Chains vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell recently took part in a fan Q&A for Metal Hammer and was asked about the prospect of any future collaborations. It seems one the grunge icon is holding out hope for is a chance to write and record with James Hetfield, vocalist/guitarist of diamond-certified thrash metal icons Metallica.
Cantrell is by no means a stranger to the group, having served as one of several guests alongside his own bandmates and members of Primus, Corrosion Of Conformity and more on Metallica‘s “Garage Inc.” covers album. There’s also been a number of other live pairings since.
When asked if he would be open to working with Hetfield on a project in the above-mentioned publication, Cantrell stated:
“James and I have talked about it, kind of. We never had a formal conversation but I’ve jammed with him at Kirk [Hammett, Metallica guitarist]’s place. I’ve even spent a night or two at his house, and we’ve ended up with guitars in the kitchen and on the porch. It’s something I’d be really curious about, even to just write a song with him. As for whether it’d turn into something more than that, he’s got a pretty demanding day job. Ha ha! So I’d understand if it never comes to be.”
