Fred Durst Explains Why He Brought Corey Feldman Out On Limp Bizkit’s Summer Tour

Of the various summer 2024 touring packages headed up by a band of heavier fare, Limp Bizkit‘s ‘Loserville Tour‘ was quite easily the most diverse and ambitiously booked. Spearheaded by nü-metal’s most obnoxious and infamous band, the trek didn’t cater to growing nostalgia in all things nü.

Instead that run featured emo rapper Bones (feat. Eddy Baker & Xavier Wulf), synth-punker N8NOFACE, and child actor turned musician Corey Feldman. Topping off that eccentric roster was rapper Riff Raff serving as the festival’s host.

Feldman was obviously the most questionable name involved. Known for his standout roles in the hit 80s films ‘The Goonies‘, ‘Gremlins‘, ‘Stand By Me‘, ‘The Lost Boys‘ and more, Feldman‘s later career has mostly focused on his somewhat questionable, and sometimes widely mocked musical pursuits.

Those ventures have included him fronting an outfit of scantily clad woman called Corey’s Angels, with whom he had a well-documented unconventional relationship with. In 2020, several former members of that group would later make allegations of abuse and sexual harassment regarding the time spent with Feldman. Feldman himself has previously come forward with his own allegations of being sexually abused amid his time as a child actor.

As you’d expect, Feldman‘s involvement also generated the biggest headlines for the tour, with his infamous guitar solo spending some time as a reigning meme amid the trek. However, with his musical pursuits more of a curiosity than a surefire draw, it was obvious that Feldman‘s inclusion on the bill came through Limp Bizkit vocalist Fred Durst.

Durst has spent considerable time both behind and in front of the camera, directing various films and more. Durst even publicly furthered his ties to Feldman earlier this year when he directed a music video for him. He later directed a mockumentary for the very tour featuring Feldman and other performing artists. However, the friendship between the pair is by no means a new development, instead dating back to the a meeting at the Playboy mansion in the ltate 90s.

In a piece conducted amid that summer tour that has newly been published online over at GQ, Durst was asked why he invited Feldman on the trek. He replied:

“My hope is that people who might not know who he is get to discover him. And the audience on this tour is so young. We’re having a resurgence where I can ask, ‘For how many people, is it your first time seeing Limp Bizkit?’ The whole place raises their hand. This is a whole new generation of people discovering Limp Bizkit without it being marketed to them.

And I’m such a fan of Corey’s acting and what he did back in the day. I was like, ‘Man, bring your band out here, and expose your music to this new audience.’ And if they like his music, they can look his name up, and they’ll find Goonies, Stand By Me, Lost Boys, Dream a Little Dream. Because every night I ask people in the audience, and they haven’t seen those movies—and those movies are legendary. Those performances are unreal, bro. Unreal.

So I said, ‘We have this opening slot. It’s a hard one. And I got some other people wanting to do it, but maybe you might want to do it.’ He goes, ‘That’d be awesome.’ So, cut to—we’re here.”

In the same interview, Feldman also commented of his own single “The Joke“, which boasted the unconventional guitar solo mentioned above. According to Feldman, the live performances of that track furthered the lyrical theme of the track, adding an extra layer. As Feldman put it, the solo served, “a musical joke—the fact that I’m not a good guitar player.”

With new music brewing in the studio, Limp Bizkit will resurrect the ‘Loserville Tour‘ overseas in the new year, albeit this time without Feldman. Bones, N8NOFACE and Riff Raff will be returning however, with Jon Carnage, Ecca Vandal & Karen Dió also taking part.
