Sometimes Mother Nature refuses to cooperate, as Metallica and their fans in Munich, Germany experienced firsthand last night, May 24th. The thrash metal legends were onstage for their first proper live show of the year, but not everything went as planned, as inclement weather battered the Olympiastadion last night, and subsequently anyone attending the concert.

The storied band weren’t without some benefits from the accompanying light show that was provided free of charge though. As seen in the below fan-filmed footage, a lightning strike helped accentuate the intro to the band’s set-closing performance of “Master Of Puppets“, delivering an unforgettable moment for those in the audience.

Sadly, “Ride The Lightning” was not in the setlist last night — though admittedly, that could have just been tempting fate. The setlist for for the tour opener ran as follows:

Whiplash
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Of Wolf And Man
The Memory Remains
Lux Æterna
Too Far Gone?
Fade To Black
Shadows Follow
Orion
Nothing Else Matters
Sad But True
The Day That Never Comes
Hardwired
Fuel
Seek & Destroy
Master Of Puppets
